Under the Skyway:  Chicago's East Side

Photographic Effects (Page 3)

Image-editing software is a useful tool for transforming photographs into images on a website, but it's also fun to mess with. My main goal with the Skyway/East Side photos was to document some of what I had seen (and something that was atypical of Chicago photos) on my bike rides. In preparing them for the website, however, I discovered that I could do more than crop, resize, sharpen and change file formats. In the photos that follow, I've taken some of the images (or parts of them) from other pages and added effects like "neon" and "glow." The contrast between dark machinery and light sky was especially conducive to these effects. Some of these accentuate the bleakness of the original images in interesting ways, I think.

What follows is a bunch of these warped pictures, arranged more in aesthetic than thematic ways. Again, to see a larger version of any picture, click the thumbnail and then click your browser's "back" button to return to this page.
