We have a few pictures of the Chicago fiberglass cows on our picture pages, but Chicago evidently sparked a trend. Here are pages for some of the other public fiberglass animal exhibitions:
The Official Cow Parade Website - I guess this is now a franchise, with New York following Chicago's lead in the year 2000 (along with Stamford, CT and West Orange, NJ). In the year 2001, there are supposed to be cow parades in Kansas City, London, and Houston.
Moose in the City - Toronto was a bit more creative with their version, although theirs is sponsored by Labatt Blue (why not Moosehead?)
Herd about Buffalo - Although snowmen might have been more appropriate, this New York city went for the namesake animal.
The Big Pig Gig - Cincinnati's version honors its agricultural legacy.
Festival of Fins - New Orleans chose fish as its fiberglass medium of choice - imagine the possibilities with shrimp or crawfish. Andrea and I saw a few of these at New Year's.
The Original: Chicago's Cows on Parade - Click on an area of town to see lists (which lead to pix) of cows in that area.
Other cool places:
Terraserver - Search for topographical maps and aerial images by place name. You can zoom in and out and this includes images from Soviet satellites. There's also a cool utility (USAMaps) that allows you to scan and zoom downloaded maps from this source at http://jdmcox.com/.
Visible Earth - various satellite photos of Earth, presented by NASA.
Bottomquark - okay, maybe this is "educational" - science and technology news and discussion.
Quoteland - Find your favorite quotes by searching by topic or author (I tried searching by keywords, but had limited success).
Maps of the Internet - The Internet "mapped" out on a map of Antarctica - click on the "area" of interest and keep clicking to zoom in.
FactMonster - Facts, quizzes, homework help, atlas, almanac, etc.
Guiness World Records - Featured records, search by categories, etc.
Lost in Translation - type in a phrase and this uses translation software to translate back and forth between English and five European languages, with the end result usually incoherent.
eLibs - a whole site devoted to Mad Libs
Zombo - Anything is possible at Zombo.com
Educational Stuff:
Country Reports - basic geographical info, flags, anthems, and links
Infonation - compare statistical data from the UN for up to five countries.
